Build my most recent Lego purchases; 6212: X-wing Fighter and 4210: Coast Guard Platform.

Love the X-wing, looks ace. I really really like it. Nice amount of minifigs and chrome lightsaber hilt! You don't get those anymore with the newer sets.

The build was okay, two me just under two hours I think. Wings got a bit repetitive but you can't do much about that. I clipped in the wings back to front, I didn't realize until I looked at the instruction booklet, ugh it was such a pain to unclip them (those technic pins are tough!), had to end up dismantling the wings just to pull out those pins. Not fun.

Coast Guard Platform is fantastic! One of my favourite sets for the year.

I had a lot more fun building this one even if there wasn't much building required, took me roughly the same time as the X-wing. I really like the small helicopter, probably my favourite thing of the set. Little hooks are nice for placing the equipment, I really hate it when you don't get storage room. Stickers were a bit annoying, hard to align them on round shapes but nothing a bit of persistence doesn't pay off.

It's looking fantastic on my computer shelf. I highly recommend this.

Try brinklink if you need spare parts. They have parts that Lego themselves would be hard pressed to still have in production.
If I want your opinion, I'll give it to you

Cool, thanks Fungal Infection, I will try that as well.

I just found something interesting that people might find useful.

It has scans of instructions/catalogues for people that may have lost them.

This has proven useful for me as I have lost one of my instruction booklets for a particular model.

Edit: wow, this is a very good site. Thanks dude.

But how do the sellers get their new parts? I think Lego must still create them.

Some parts are second hand, whilst others are taken from new sets and parted out. You'll find the rarer parts attract a premium price because they are hard to come by, either new or old.

So the older rarer parts such as the minifig body, head, and windscreen that I recently got new for my riptide racer (4002) would have been just old new parts?

They definitly were new too, you can tell by the neck on a minifig.

I thought that Lego might have had some sort of parts warehouse thing that the sellers were buying from.

EDIT: So has anyone seen the 8293 motor set around at all?
